Getting Started with Discord
1. Download Discord
On mobile: Go to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and search for Discord.
On desktop: Visit https://discord.com and download the desktop app.
You can also use Discord Web directly in your browser.
2. Create Your Account
Open the app or website.
Click Register and provide:
Username (this is your public name; you can change it later)
Email
Password
Verify your email with the link Discord sends you.
3. Set Up Your Profile
Click the gear icon (⚙️) next to your username → User Profile:
Add a profile picture.
Add a bio if you like.
Customize your status (e.g., "Online", "Busy", or a custom message).
4. Learn the Basics
Servers: Like communities or groups. Each server can have multiple channels.
Channels:
Text channels (#) for chatting.
Voice channels for calls and screen sharing.
DMs: Direct Messages for private chats with friends.
5. Join or Create a Server
To join a server:
Click the plus icon on the left → Join a Server → Paste the invite link.
To create your own server:
Click Create a Server and follow the setup prompts.
6. Send Messages & Media
Type in text channels to chat.
Use @username to tag someone.
Use emojis, GIFs, and stickers to make messages fun.
In voice channels, you can talk or stream your screen.
7. Set Up Privacy & Security
Go to User Settings → Privacy & Safety:
Limit who can send you DMs.
Turn off friend requests from everyone if you prefer.
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for security.
8. Explore Advanced Features
Roles: Assign permissions to members in your server.
Bots: Add bots for moderation, music, or games.
Integrations: Connect with Twitch, YouTube, or other apps.
9. Stay Safe
Don’t click suspicious links in chats.
Be cautious in public servers.
Block or report users who harass or spam.
